Keep in mind that welfare is only temporary – the onus is on you to improve your own situation to get off welfare.
The government also offers single mom financial assistance in the form of single mother grants and single mom scholarships. Scholarships and grants provide a free source of money that can be used to help pay for college, fix up a house, buy fuel, etc.

We are trying to figure out where to turn for help for my sister and her children. She is a single mom, disabled, with four children. How can we find some sort of program for housing or assistance with utilities, or getting her a vehicle, or SOMETHING? ANYTHING will help. She’s having a difficult time getting food stamps because she’s told she makes slightly over the required income because her teenaged son has a job that brings in roughly $600 a month. If he quits work they can get food stamps. But they need what he provides to help with rent and utilities. They haven’t had a vehicle in over a year so getting around, trying to find a better job or help is another thing that’s a struggle. She is now struggling with depression and desperation and She lives in Ingleside, TX. Do you know somewhere she can turn to for help in getting some sort of help to get on her feet? We don’t know what else to do to help. Thank you for whatever guidance you can give us. She gets a small disability check and some child support but they can’t make it on what is coming in.
Sincerely,
Beverly Rogers
